We had Options For Healthy Living clean our hvac ducts. Ron was on time for our original consultation. He was patient, thorough and most importantly honest. The day of the cleaning, he arrived as promised and began to work. Upon completion, there were absolutely no surprises with the bill. It was exactly what he quoted. He even found an existing issue and fixed it! I would recommend Options to anyone who's looking for this service. Don't fall for a salesperson who tells you one thing, and does another. If you want your ducts cleaned properly, call Ron.

My family recently moved into a 30 year old townhouse and there was a funky odor - maybe the previous tenants had pets, smoked, or were just plain dirty but we just couldn't get rid of the funky odor no matter how much we cleaned. Our landlord agreed to pay to have the ducts cleaned for us since they had not ever been cleaned before. First, the landlord contacted another company to come out and do the duct cleaning. They scheduled us in and said it would take about an 1 1/2 hours overall to clean all the duct work in the house (which was fine with us - we didn't know any differently). The other company showed up after we waited around for a couple hours and immediately told us they couldn't do the job because the ducts were somehow not compatible with their system. We were pretty upset because we rearranged our schedules so that we could be here to let them in and now our time was wasted and we would have to reschedule and wait around for another company to do the work. Or so we thought...
Our landlord contacted Options For Healthy Living that same day and the owner of the business personally came to our house that afternoon for an estimate and to confirm that he could thoroughly clean our duct work. He said he could come the very next day but that it would take all day to do the duct cleaning. We were shocked! How was this other company going to do all this work in 1 1/2 hours, but it would take him the entire day? We found out that the other company (I will not say who), basically hires two guys to come in with a giant vacuum cleaner and suck out as much dirt as possible as fast as possible. Sure, they are going to suck out a lot of dust, but only on the surface level.
Options, on the other hand, has powerful, professional equipment designed to clean and sanitize the entire HVAC system and all the duct work, using cameras as they go along in the process to ensure that everything is properly done. They only schedule one job per day meaning that they dedicate their entire day to cleaning one house - no rushing around to get out the door for the next job! The owner of the company, Ron (who is highly qualified and professional) and his assistant, personally do the work. They came to our house on time and got right to work putting down tarps and moving the furniture out of the way. They spent the entire day cleaning the duct work and our system and even fixed a few things along the way in our system to make sure that our system was running as efficiently as possible (at no extra charge). They also thoroughly cleaned all of our vent covers by hand. Finally, they sanitized and deodorized the entire system. Finally, they vacuumed the house and cleaned up their mess before leaving. Overall, they spent the entire working day at our house.
As for the price, I can't say because our landlord (kindly) paid to have this service done for us, but I can say this - don't be fooled by the ads you see in the circulars advertising a job like this for $99. If it seems too good to be true, then it is. This is not a job that can be done in one or two hours. Our house is not even that big and it was an all day job. I don't know what Options charges, but I will say that based on the time spent, quality of work, professionalism and the fantastic results, this company is the real deal and you will get what you pay for.
This is by far the best home service we have ever had. Like I mentioned earlier, Ron is the owner of the company and he takes great pride in a job well done. He doesn't just come in and do a superficial cleaning and rush out to get to the next job. He is a qualified professional who has built his livelihood around this business and takes his job seriously. We immediately noticed a huge difference in the funky smell that this house had and we cannot say enough times how satisfied we are with the work done and the overall experience we had with this company.

My husband and I recently purchased a home in which heavy smokers had lived previously. The person we hired to do the inspection on our home recommended we have the air ducts cleaned to help take away some of the smell of cigarette smoke, so we called Options for Healthy Living. Mr. Hampe, the owner, came to meet with my husband and I beforehand and thoroughly explained the process. On the day he was originally scheduled to arrive, it was raining heavily, and he had the decency to call and offer to come another day that was convenient for us so as not to track mud and rain into our house, and then had no problem re-scheduling for the Saturday before Labor Day.
When he arrived with his father to do the job, they were both very considerate and removed their shoes so as not to track anything into the house. They both worked diligently to finish the jobs in a timely manner - even taking the time to scrub latex paint from the vent covers by hand! Before they left, they were sure to clean up after themselves completely as well. Other than now having fresher air in the house, we would not know they had been here.
Many thanks to both Mr. Hampes - and a huge recommendation for their work! To start, customers must know that I called Mr. Hampe on a Sunday to discuss getting my ducts cleaned. Instead of discussing all the details on the phone, Ron offered to come out that day to look at my home. This was his idea, not mine. I'm sure he doesn't do this for everyone, but I thought you should know his level of dedication to his trade.

After spending 2 hours onsite and giving me multiple tips and recommendations, he told me that I should "wait" to get my ducts cleaned until I finished sme home improvement projects. You simply don't get contractors to tell you to *wait* and to not hire them.
Moving on to a few months later, I scheduled with Ron to clean my ducts. He was onsite as scheduled, accompanied by his father. These gentlemen cleaned my entire HVAC system end-to-end, including washing my register covers. I can't tell you how surprised I was at the amount of work that was involved in doing things. It's 10% machine, 90% man.
These guys hustled and ran around for 4-5 hours. They pulled out pounds of debris. He also fixed at least 3 duct work issues, from screwing in fallen supports to applying new tape to seal leaks. Note, this may not be his normal process.
I wish Ron did other things rather than duct cleaning. I would hire him for anything based on his work ethic alone.

We called Options for Healthy Living and Ron returned our call promptly and we set a day for the work to be done. Ron was on time and removed his shoes when he came in our home. Ron and his father went to work immediately and continued to work till they were done.
The first thing he did was check the furnace and found the blower to be filthy. Just the week before we had a furnace company come in to do maintenance. Apparently the blower was not a priority. Besides cleaning the furnace and all the duct work they cleaned all the covers, the dryer vent and replaced an elbow that was restrictive.
Ron explained everything they did in detail and invited me to watch, which I did for a while. Ron gave me some advice on how to make airflow more efficient and getting dust under control. They did a good job of cleaning up after the work was done.
Ron also spent a little bit of time with our geriatric dog and was patient with him when he stuck his big nose in the work. I can't say enough good things about Ron and his father. I would hire them again in a short minute.
Allen D. - Bethel Park, PA
I spoke to Ron on the phone to have him come by to give me an estimate and after talking for a while about how many registers and returns I had, he was comfortable quoting the job over the phone - so instead of using the appointment for an estimate, I was able to have the work done right away.
Ron arrived with his assistant (his dad - who was a great guy) and they got to work right away. They removed all the registers, cleaned them and put them back on more securely than they were when they started. The air quality has drastically improved and my severe dust problem has kind of gone away. I'm thrilled with the results. Ron did things right and left things cleaner than when he arrived.
I would definitely recommend him and actually, I just gave his number to a good friend earlier this week.

Besides all the usual good things you can say. Ron and his father bring an old fashion (hard) work ethic to the table. I feel like I can honestly trust them as good people. You may be able to find cheaper rates, but you are not getting overcharged with Ron and you get your monies worth due to the time he puts in at your house and his thoroughness. He spent 4-5 hours and did an excellent job.
My house was vacant waiting for carpet and paint, so touching up the registers is not an issue for me, you cannot expect registers taken off that has 5 coats of paint on it not to need some touchup. You are welcome to stay and watch his cameras monitor his work in your ducts as well. Ron will be getting more business from my Uncle nearby.
Harry G. -Pittsburgh, PA
Very impressed with not only the quality of work but Ron and his father were both exceptional in explaining what they were doing and answering any questions I had. Showed up exactly when they said they would and worked straight through until the job was completed - approximately 6 hours.
Entire furnace was cleaned during the process inside and out - inspected the furnace and made a few recommendations on things that I may want to replace or keep an eye on. Would highly recommend using this company.

Options was excellent! Ron Hampe the owner, holds degrees in both HVAC and IAQ. We set an appointment within one week. He arrived on time, made preliminary checks of the outlet registers, furnace and cold air returns.
He was well equipped and while being friendly, kept the pace moving. Options only services one home a day so Ron can do a thorough job and deal with unexpected problems.
He spent 7 hours in my home and explained the purpose of cold air returns and that both of mine were full of insulation making them ineffective. He removed all of that insulation.
Options guarantees their quoted prices and that quote includes all material, labor and equipment. There are no add-on costs to the price quoted. When completed, he checked against the original readings and there was a significant improvement in air circulation and far less temperature variation.

Ron and Fred did an excellent job. They went out of their way to come on a Saturday to squeeze the work in on our new home before we moved in. They came on time and were very professional. The job was thorough and they cleaned up after themselves.
They also cleaned our dryer vent and fixed the tubing as an added job which was also done well. What a great company, very upfront, honest, and they did a great job. We'll use them again in the future and recommend them to our friends.
Emily M. - Pittsburgh, PA
Ron and Fred showed up on time. Ron explained what he wanted to do as he set up. Every time Ron came up from the basement to do work, he took off his shoes so not to track dirt through the house.
He was very thorough and took his time while working. He let us know where the ducts ran in the house and look at the TV monitor that showed inside of the plenum to see how the cleaning was going.
The results were obvious seeing the mess that came from our ductwork. They cleaned up everything before they left. We can notice a difference in the air quality in the house after only a couple days.

I'm very pleased with Options for Health Living. Ron, the owner, and his father, Fred, did an excellent job cleaning my ducts and the furnace. The previous owner of the house we purchased had a cat so we wanted to make sure the ducts were cleaned out prior to moving into the house. In addition, our home inspector indicated the furnace was dirty/dusty and indeed it was.
When I called the owner, Ron Hampe, he was very upfront about his pricing, which is based on the number of vents. While it was expensive, I knew the pricing up-front, and I feel their service justified the price.
For starters, I booked a Saturday appointment and Ron & Fred arrived on-time at 8:00 AM. They worked approx. 7 hours cleaning my furnace (the blower) vacuuming out the unit and cleaning all of the vents. They did a very thorough job and I was impressed with their work ethic.
In this industry, you really need to be careful and make sure you select a reputable company as there are many $39 whole house specials, which are nothing more than bait and switch.
If you need to have your ducts/furnace cleaned out, I would strongly recommend this company. I selected them based on Ron's HVAC knowledge after doing considerable research on this subject. Ron and Fred are professional, knowledgeable and helpful and I'm a very satisfied customer! He was great!! Cleaned all the vents and returns out of our 100 year old house which we just had remodeled.

My house is 10 years old and there was a lot of dust in the duct work from when it was constructed. I have seasonal allergies and thought having the air ducts cleaned would help.
When I called to inquire about how the service was performed and the cost they were very helpful and I did not feel pressured. They answered all of my questions and provided a lot of additional information in a very pleasant manner.
Another vendor that I had inquired with offered very similar services, but I felt more comfortable with options because they did not try to sell me additional services that were not necessary, and they were a little less expensive.
They showed up on time and were very careful about their work. The process itself is very noisy, but they made it a point to let me know every time there would be a big jump in the noise level. Cleaning the grates and covers is part of the service but they also cleaned a bit more than I would have expected which was nice (such as the track of a sliding glass door that was near a floor vent).
They also gave me good advice on some small but helpful changes I may want to make to the existing air filter system on my furnace. He even reconnected my dryer hose as a courtesy (I did not notice that it had come loose).

I called up Options for a Healthy Living and talked to Ron about cleaning my ducts. Unlike a few other companies on Angie's List that I had called, Ron took a few minutes to find out what problem I was trying to solve, then advised me that cleaning my ducts probably wouldn't solve that problem.
He then proceeded to spend about 15 minutes on the phone with me diagnosing my problem (it had to do with airflow), offering advice, and giving me enough background that I can take a few more steps myself.
I am delighted whenever I find a true craftsman who will genuinely try to solve the customer's problem, not just sell a service. I can't comment on the quality of duct cleaning that the company provides, but I can highly recommend the professionalism of the principle. Thanks Ron!

Arrived on time, work took 5 hours to complete. Disassembled and cleaned fan unit on furnace and cleaned entire furnace. Removed and cleaned all registers. Cleaned both sides of system supply and return (top down and bottom up to get all dirt and dust) reassembled everything and tested system.
I'm very pleased with the results would recommend them to anyone with allergies and asthma.

I met Ron owner of Options at his booth while attending the Washington County home show in March. After discussion and learning he did all the work usually with his Father as helper I felt we had the right company. Ron came over to my house and after inspection gave me the quote which was based on the number of vents in the house. My wife and I agreed to the offer but due to the time involved and having to run hoses etc... through open doors we agreed to wait till nice weather. He called when it looked appropriate and came over as scheduled.
Unfortunately I did not get to experience him working with his Dad but his wife Debbie was called off the bench to fill in. The work performed was much more involved than I would ever have imagined. Although there were no issues with the system, access to it became an obstacle which Ron over came by improvising and fabrication of home made duct work on the fly. He and Debbie worked non stop for 10 hours. They both made sure to take the time to protect household items and to clean everything when complete.
I am pleased that I had the work done and even more happy we chose Ron's company for the work. They treated my house with respect and by the time they were finished I would call them friends. Everything was very well done, work ethic second to none. Hopefully I can welcome them back again some time.

Awesome job. Incredible the amount of work they did and how detailed oriented the team was. Very impressed with this company and will recommend to anyone that is looking for this service

I just purchased a home, and had the carpets cleaned. There were stains in the carpet, and the carpet cleaner stated that they were from dirty duct work (of course, he sold duct cleaning). Given my unfamiliarity with my new home, I became a bit concerned that the carpet cleaner was correct. Perhaps my duct work did need cleaning?
I began to do research of companies which clean duct work. I originally contacted Ron based on Angie's List's positive feedback, as well as recommendations of friends/colleagues. I contacted Ron on Saturday, and asked him if he would be willing to come out to give me an estimate. Ron accommodated my schedule, as well as my desire to get an appointment with him as soon as possible. If I was going to have the duct work cleaned, I wanted to have it completed before I actually moved in.
I had no idea how fortunate I would be in electing Ron as the company to come and give an estimate. Ron promptly arrived at my home, introduced himself, and asked if there was a problem. He immediately told me that he recently had cleaned the duct work in my house. I was amazed that he did not take advantage of me, and tell me that my duct work definitely needed cleaning. Not only did he tell me that he had cleaned the ducts for the prior owners, but he took the time to check my furnace, duct work, and vents to ensure that everything was in working order, and clean.
In today's world, finding a man of Ron's integrity, honesty, and kindness is a rare blessing! He easily could have taken advantage of me, saying you need your duct work cleaned. He did not have to disclose that he had recently cleaned my duct work. He absolutely did not have to take the time to take the cover off my furnace, inspect my ducts through a prior access area, and remove multiple vents to ensure everything was in proper working order.
When I asked Ron if there was a charge, he told me no. Here is a business man who makes his living securing jobs. He was honest enough to disclose information, which I had no knowledge of ( the fact that he cleaned the ducts during the time of the previous owners), and did not charge me anything for his trip/time.
I can say without hesitation, when it is time for the ductwork to be cleaned - the only company cleaning my ductwork will be Options For Healthy Living!

They checked our air ducts and they found out that it doesn't need to be cleaned. We found that very remarkable. I was very pleased and he was very thorough. He didn't try to sell me anything. He was prompt. He was here when he said he's going to. He was very conscious, I like to think I have a clean house and he took off his shoes...that is important to me.
John K. - Fayette City, PA
Complete air duct cleaning of our heating system. As well, he took apart and cleaned the blower and motor, cleaned all register covers and vacuumed all areas affected by work. GREAT!!!! Ron showed up on time and got right to work. His dad/Fred assists him by cleaning all register covers and all else that Ron needs. Ron took the time to show me what he was doing, let me take some pictures (before and after), gave advice on upcoming air filter purchases (and did some extra work to ensure air did not go around the just slightly too small filter we already had installed!) and other 'little' things that made the day a good experience. Oh, in addition to discarding the petrified mouse in one of the ducts, he and his Dad reinstalled all register covers and vacuumed affected areas.
